How the calculator works
The notice deadline is the expiry date minus the notice period. If the notice period is in days, that number of days is subtracted. If it's in calendar months, the calculator goes back to the same date that many months earlier. If that date doesn't exist in the month, the last day of the month is used. Example: 31.12.2026 − 3 months = 30.09.2026.
If the deadline falls on a Saturday, Sunday or Norwegian public holiday, you'll get a warning. The safest option is then to send notice on the last working day before. Remember that the contract may have its own rules – for example, that notice must be received (not just sent) by the deadline, or that notice can only take effect at the end of a month or quarter.
Questions about notice deadlines
Where do I find the expiry date?
In the contract, the order confirmation or the latest invoice. If there's only a start date and a minimum term, work out the expiry date from those.
What does “three months' notice” mean?
Usually that notice must be given at least three months before the agreement expires. Some agreements count from the end of the month in which notice is given. Read the wording carefully.
Does notice have to be in writing?
Many agreements require written notice, and it's wise anyway so you can document when it was given. Ask the vendor for written confirmation.
